Hello Friends, and happy February!
If you’re familiar with the Epilepsy Foundation’s annual Chocolate Ball, then you know that our very own Jonathan will once again be entering his unique chocolate cake creation in the competition to win prizes and raise funds for an excellent cause. Each of the approximately eight pastry chefs who enter a cake for tasting and official judging also donates one of the same cakes as part of a live auction to raise money during the foundation’s biggest fund-raiser of the year. In fact, tomorrow (February 3), Jonathan and one of his mouthwatering Beyond Chocolate cakes will be featured at 12:30 pm on Channel 8’s midday news broadcast, to promote the event to Rochester-area viewers. Tune in!
If you’ve never been to the Chocolate Ball, there’s still plenty of time to get your tickets. Just go to the Epilepsy Foundation’s website — and believe me, a real treat’s in store for you and your lucky date. This year’s theme is “Midnight in the Garden,” and it’s going to be beautifully romantic and dreamy, with dark blues, greens and purples, plus twinkly stars. More than 500 people are expected to attend, and there will incredible food, with top sirloin of beef and Chicken Gorgonzola for dinner. The event also features a silent auction with more than 200 items available for bid, a raffle for an amazing vacation to the Dominican Republic, plus live music by Rochester’s own Skycoasters! The highlight of the event comes after dinner, when the auctioneer takes the floor and bidding begins for the unique chocolate cakes prepared by Rochester-area pastry chefs. This year’s MCs will be Don Alhart from Channel 13 news and Joe Lomonaco from WHAM. Mark your calendar and get your tickets now:
DATE: Saturday, February 11, 5:30 to midnight.

Be sure to arrive by 5:30 for the champagne and cocktail reception, when you can also taste all the award-winning cakes- especially Jonathan’s! This year, Jonathan has partnered with Encore Chocolates to create his showpiece. All attendees get to vote for the People’s Choice award, and we’re proud to say that JonJohn’s Bakery has won it twice already. This time, we’re going for the gusto — the Grand Prize. If not that, we hope to land at the top of the Taste or Showpiece awards. We can’t divulge the details here, but just know that Jonathan’s beyond chocolate cake, with help from Aaron at Encore Chocolates, will be A) extremely delicious and a one-of-a-kind recipe, and B) decorated to perfection, according to the Midnight in the Garden theme. You’ll have to see this chocolate dream in person!
We would love to see you at the ball, but if we miss you, remember that it IS the month for love, as well as for chocolate lovers. And who doesn’t love chocolate? And speaking of LOVE, be sure to call or email us ASAP to put in your order for Valentine’s Day (that’s Tuesday, February 14). Whether it’s Jonathan’s famous Beyond Chocolate Cake, sweet heart-shaped cookies or cakes, yummy chocolate-dipped strawberries, peanut butter balls or bourbon balls (those babies pack a punch!), your sweetie is sure to swoon over your gift from JonJohn’s Bakery! Thanks for all your support. We love our customers! Best in all things, Jonathan & John
